About Sarah

"I believe that each of us carries within us the knowledge and wisdom to create and experience our own unique and rewarding life. I have seen, over and over, how horses can be our teachers and guides, leading us back to ourselves and to what is truly meaningful."

Born in France, Sarah Barron grew up in Washington, DC. Her love of horses was innate and she began riding at the age of six. From those early days, her life has brought many opportunities to learn from and about horses. Though her life path has taken many turns, her connection to equines has been a constant.

A degree in anthropology and consequent graduate studies in history/folklore first brought her to Newfoundland. She spent ten years doing research before an eight year sojourn in Prince Edward Island with her husband and two young daughters. In 2002, she and her family moved back to St. John's.

Sarah has worked as a writer and editor but always kept ties with the horse world. A lifetime of riding, horse ownership and managing small stables has given her a wide range of experience. Though she has explored many disciplines, her riding focus has been on dressage. She has traveled widely in this pursuit, studying Portugese classical dressage in that country, learning about Baroque Equitation in California, and benefiting from workshops with Heather Moffatt and Mary Wanless in the UK.

Over the years, Sarah has come to believe that the most rewarding way to work with horses is by taking a holistic approach. The whole animal - body and mind - must be considered. This belief lead her to become a student of holistic approaches like Tellington Touch, low photon light therapy, massage, acupressure, barefoot trimming, equine nutrition, Emotional Freedom Technique, Equine Stress Control Therapy and the principles of natural horse keeping.

She pursued Equine Science Studies at the University of Guelph but a turning point came when she read Linda Kohanov's "Tao of Equus". This work resonated with her so deeply that she became an apprentice of Linda's, completing her training as an Advanced Epona Approved Instructor.

Since those early days, Sarah has continued to expand on this foundation by drawing on many different disciplines and schools of thought that are in harmony with her philosophy of personal awareness and deepening the relationship between horses and humans.

"Horses have a natural brilliance and intelligence about their emotions. They are consistently in touch with their feelings. Once we learn to recognize and listen to how this relates to us, we can start a journey of exploration that has no limitations. Being able to introduce this horse intelligence to those who are open to experiential learning is exciting and humbling. Facilitating this process of personal discovery is a passion that continues to grow."
